Roof Garden on Rottekade in Rotterdam

In 2025, we created a 38 m² rooftop flower meadow on a residential building on Rottekade in Rotterdam. A functional flat roof was transformed into a vibrant green roof featuring flowering herbs and various plant species that create a colorful and natural scene throughout the growing season.

Because the roof is clearly visible from the garden, the rooftop flower meadow serves as an extension of the outdoor space. In addition to providing a unique green view, the roof contributes to greater biodiversity, helps manage rainwater, and offers a valuable habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Furthermore, the roofing is protected from the elements, which extends the roof’s lifespan.

A 38 m² rooftop flower meadow, expertly landscaped.

A colorful roof as an extension of the garden

Because the rooftop flower meadow is clearly visible from the garden, the green roof serves as a natural extension of the outdoor space. During the growing season, flowering herbs and various plant species create a colorful and varied landscape that changes with each season.

In addition to its attractive appearance, the rooftop flower meadow also offers practical benefits. The green roof buffers rainwater and drains it slowly, protects the roof covering from the elements, and creates a valuable habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. In this way, the roof not only contributes to an attractive view but also to a more sustainable and biodiverse living environment.
