At a home on Dubbelhoflaan in The Hague, we installed three sedum roofs over the course of several years. First, we greened the roof of an addition, followed by a second addition and the shed roof. Together with the carefully maintained garden, the roofs now form a single green living environment.

Sedum roofs on Dubbelhoflaan in The Hague
On Dubbelhoflaan in The Hague, we installed three sedum roofs for an enthusiastic resident. The greening process took place in stages. First, the flat roof of an addition was covered with sedum; later, a second addition followed; and finally, the shed roof was also turned into a green roof.
The resident has a great passion for greenery. Her carefully tended garden, together with the sedum roofs, forms a single natural whole. From above, the contrast with the surrounding, largely paved gardens is clearly visible.
Especially in the summer, when the sedum plants are in full bloom, the roofs add extra color and life to the area around the house. They also help increase biodiversity, help absorb rainwater, and protect the roof covering from the elements.

The Solution
Three sedum roofs were installed in stages.
Two extensions with sedum plantings are planned.
We also turned the barn roof into a green roof.
A single, cohesive green space has been created.

A green oasis in the heart of the residential neighborhood
The house on Dubbelhoflaan stands out because of the strong connection between the garden and the roof. While many gardens in the area consist largely of paved surfaces, here the green garden and the three sedum roofs together form a single natural oasis.
The greening project was carried out in several phases. After the first sedum roof, a second addition and the barn roof followed. This allowed an increasingly larger portion of the flat roof area to be used for greenery.
The combination of a garden and sedum roofs shows that several relatively small changes can make a big difference when combined. Not only do they improve the view and the appearance of the home, but they also provide a habitat for insects, temporarily retain rainwater, and help protect the roof covering.

A low-maintenance green roof featuring various types of sedum plants. A sedum roof gives a flat roof a natural look, increases biodiversity, and helps temporarily retain rainwater. The hardy sedum plants can withstand a wide range of weather conditions and provide a varied, green, and colorful display throughout the year.
